Bangor Pride Tidy Town Team

The Environment within Bangor Pride is not restricted to the Tidy Towns initiative but aims to co-ordinate any group of volunteers who wish to contribute to any of the projects we undertake, and indeed to take part in initiatives that already exist within other voluntary organisations. Its aim is to direct the energies of these groups or individuals to make a physical difference to the local environment and have a positive impact for local residents and visitors to the City.

The team sits neatly under the umbrella of Bangor Pride and to date contributors have included:-

North Wales Police.
The Army Prep School (Bangor)
NW Probation
The congregation of St Mary's Church, Bangor
Local residents who have been willing to give a little (and in some cases a lot) of their time.
Teachers and Pupils of Ysgol Glanadda
Local business'
Communities First

In future we have been given assurance of assistance from Bangor University volunteer group who have been conducting their own environmental projects within the city as well a number of schools.

A number of litter picks have taken place with schools and other volunteer groups but to date the largest completed project has been done at St Mary's Church. This project resulted in a significant tonnage of scrub undergrowth and litter being removed. Litter disposed of and the undergrowth shredded on site as a more environmental means of disposal. The results have reduced the amount of underage drinking and associated antisocial behaviour increased the natural lighting and, hopefully increased the footfall of people using the church as a thoroughfare.

Various other improvements are destined for the site including expanding the access areas and installing lights.

Future projects will include these improvements and further focus on the city centre
