Restoration work begins to secure future of the North Wales Heroes’ Memorial Arch

Bangor Civic Society would like to take this opportunity to thank Bangor University, CADW, ARRIVA and other contributors small and large who have supported the restoration of the Memorial Arch.

The memorial is an important local building and forms a key part of Bangors heritage. It is therefore a credit to the University that they have supported and invested in this historical and architectural link with the community.

Funding secured for the restoration of the North Wales Heroes’ Memorial Arch

Bangor University is delighted to announce that it now has funding to commence the current phase of restoration work to the North Wales Heroes’ Memorial Arch, which commemorates the fallen of the First World War.

Contributions from organisations and individuals have supplemented the University’s substantial commitment of funding, which will support the preservation of this Grade II listed landmark. Notable supporters include: Cadw, which made a major grant; the War Memorials Trust; Arriva Buses; and councils, civic societies and organisations from across north and mid-Wales.

The University extends its thanks to the dedicated working group of local volunteers that has worked hard to secure support for the campaign. Working with the University’s Development Office, they sent over 300 letters to councils, community groups, military and other organisations across North and Mid Wales in October 2007. As a direct result of this appeal, many organisations made generous gifts. The working group has also played a crucial role in raising public awareness of the Arch.

While funding has been secured for the current phase of work, the University will continue to welcome donations to support the future of the Memorial Arch. Further information about the Memorial Arch and the Campaign can be found here. (link to http://www.bangor.ac.uk/giving/mem_arch )
