Does anyone know the family John Thomas Richardson and his wife Jane who lived at no.55 Dean Street, previously 13 Clarence Street, and 292 Caernarvon Road. He was a blacksmith on the railway and originated from Crewe, Jane from Nantwich. They had a large family, some of whom are buried in Glanada. a number of their children died in their early twenties, my great grandmother Evelyn Daisy Richardson being one of them. I cant find out when John or Jane died, Jane lived to a good age as I have photos of her. Any information would be appreicated. They were known to reside at 55, Dean Street, before 1916, as Gladys Elizabeth Richardson passed away there, aged 22

As christmas approaches I remember with a smile our youth when we attended St. Marys youth club. Every christmas with the vicar Mr. Jones , nicknamed Wyatt Earp because of his large hat, would go carol singing. Even though sometimes we didnt want to do this, infact we had a good laugh. We would stand under a lamp post and sing then collectors would knock on doors. At the end of the evening we would visit Mr. Dennis Knowlton sisters house , Green Bank, in Garth for hot mincepies and drinks. Such a simple thing to do but that was the real Christmas spirit, so lacking in todays society

Bangor City FC
You might be interested to know that we are building up a collection of City memorabilia which is being stored pro tem at the University archives. When (!) our new ground opens at Nantporth, the most interesting items will be put on display. In the meantime, we are happy to receive any donations of items related to the history of the club - or scans of photographs. Again, some of the more interesting pictures and programmes we've received can be seen on our Facebook page

Green Bank
Glan Menai is a terraced house at the end of a small terrace of 4 or maybe 5 houses very close to Garth Jetty. I think the terrace might be known as Green Bank. The terrace can be seen in the background of an old photo of Garth Jetty on this site. Glan Menai is the furthest house in the terrace. Does anyone know I how can find out whose land the terrace was built on, who built it and when.

The Garth Jetty as referenced above...plus 3 more historic images here ... http://www.bangorcivicsociety.org.uk/pages/hpi/results.html?d=green A nice image here of it today: http://flickr.com/photos/theancientbrit/2473549732/sizes/l/

A return of landowners in 1871 can be found here. Deeds and Estate papers and rent books in the archives can be useful. It might predate OS maps so looking at the ones we have access to here it wasn't there in the 1851 tithe map (doesn't appear in the 1851 census either), my 1890 paper map doesn't cover the area, but it does appear in 1905. The 1874 Worrall Directory shows that Dorothy Roberts ran a lodging house at the address of number 4 so it might be worth looking though the directories to pick out more references, and check out the Gwynedd leaflet to the left for more advice. Let us know what you dig up!

I was born at St David's hospital on 18 January 1959. I often wonder if I was mistaken for another baby and taken by the wrong mother as I am so unlike the rest of my family. Does anyone know if I could locate hospital records from so long ago? Thanks Linda PS I am an opera singer, no-one else in my family is musical

Dean Street, Bangor
I'm curious to know what has become of 17-21 Dean St., Bangor. I'm related to the Joneses that used to live there for a good part of the nineteenth century. I couldn't find any pictures of it in your archive. Does anyone know? Funny how so many people seek out their roots. Wales is a fine place to have come from.

[Admin] the houses on the left at the top of the street, near the high street, now end with number 23 Proffessionelle Hairdressers you can see it here. Of course these won't be the actual houses, the nineteeth century ones would have preceded these which date roughly to 1935-1950s. An image of the premises which stood where the hi-fi shop now is can be see here. Dean St area was quite a crowded part of the city in the c19 a good building level map of 1834 allows you to zoom in to see the layout at that time, as you can see the buildings were terraced and attached to the buildings on the high street. If Wood's scaling was correct he seems to suggest that these were reasonably big houses compared with others in the location. The whole area was redeveloped in the 1930s, see before and after maps which show the gap meaning the buildings connecting Dean St and High Street were demolished prior to this development.

Kyffin Bakery
Thanks to Ken and Hywel for their messages regarding the bakery. Good to know that the buns and the hospitality were appreciated! Sad though that no record exists of the business so much part of old Bangor.

Bangor City/town
Interesting question going around... Bangor considered a City since time immemorial. So why have we got a Town Clock a town Hall etc instead of a City CLock or City Hall. Can any one shed any light? Think its just one of those things!! As far as I can remember it was always "going down town" which is basically where all the shops are .

Edward Pugh (Saddler)
Edward Pugh the Bangor saddler was my Great Great Great Grandfather. Ellin, his daughter with Jane was my Great Great Grandmother. She is buried in Nant Peris churchyard with her husband Thomas Williams (one of the very first Engine drivers on the Snowdon Mountain Railway). It looks like Hugh Pugh, (Edward's father) the noted mariner, married twice, firstly with Jane and then Catherine who he is buried with in Llanidan churchyard. Hugh Pugh is the subject of the famous Welsh language ballad 'Fflat Huw Puw.'

Kyffin Bakery
I remember Kyffin Bakery very well. My father had the electical shop at the top of Kyffin Sq on the high st. My mother, always bought her bread from the shop you mentioned. We as a treat go to the bakery & buy buns filled with sugar cream! I unfortunately have no photo's. I think you will find that the building was still standing well into the 80's possibly later. My last contact with Kyffin Sq ended 3 Years ago when my Uncle Died, he owned the electrical appliance repair shop just a bit further up from where the Bakery used to be
